Forklift trucks are important pieces of machinery used commonly in business, particularly within warehouses, distribution centers, storage handling and industrial plants. A lift truck is constructed of hundreds of parts, such as the carriage, the cab, the power source, the wheels and the engine. Forklifts usually have a variety of attachments also. The following are some of the most essential lift truck components.
Lift Truck Engine - the forklift truck is made with a power source at the rear of the machine. Various types of lift trucks have different kinds of engine which require varying power sources. For instance, a forklift with an internal combustion engine can have any of the following as its source of power: LP gas, CNG gas, gasoline or diesel. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Frame of The Truck - the base of the forklift truck and the most essential of all the forklift components is the frame of the truck. This forms the machine's core. All other forklift components are connected to the base, like for example the mast, wheels, axles counterweight and overhead guard. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks may also be part of the frame assembly.
Counterweight Forklift Components - While lifting heavy loads, the counterweight allows the machinery to be balanced. This particular part is cast iron and comes connected to the back of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric forklift, the heavy lead-acid battery gives balance and may function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also referred to as the operator compartment. Lift trucks will sometimes have closed cabs whilst others would be open to the air. There are really numerous components located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such important parts like the steering wheel, operator controls, pedals, seats, switches and levers. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
