During 1842, Inventor Jerome Increase Case founded Case in Racine. He began building threshing machines. The company later gained worldwide recognition as the first manufacturer of steam engines for its agricultural use. In time, the company grew to become the world's biggest producers of steam engines.
Case had established themselves in the construction equipment business by 1912. They became a manufacturer of road building machinery including steam rollers and road graders. Case grew their construction machine company through different acquisitions, starting with the American Tractor Corporation in 1957. Case had expanded their company by the mid-1990s to become the top manufacturer of medium-sized to light-sized construction equipment.
Case merged with the company New Holland during the year 1999 and together they became CNH Global. This business became responsible for marketing some of the globe's leading brands of agricultural and construction machinery.
