Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are linked to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces such as hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These equipment utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for uneven surfaces. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both diagonally and vertically. This specific model has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machine has a bucket or a small work platform which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These equipment provide an ideal solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is important to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road application and are limited to vertical movement.
