History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was first established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machines. During 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
