Various Kinds of Aerial Lift
Aerial lifts are a specialized type of heavy equipment which allows workers to be lifted into the air. These machinery can be used to carry out maintenance and repairs in areas which are high up in the air such as on roofs, near power lines and street-light fixtures. Like the majority of devices, there are different kinds of aerial lifts that could be used to complete different tasks. For the utmost safety, every type of different kind of equipment needs proper training and specific certification before operation.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are often called Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic kind of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform which is lifted up by means of pneumatic power and are mainly utilized for indoor applications. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest kind of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts could be driven like large carts. Generally, when the platform is extended, they could not be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone could use these devices, employees must be licensed as operators.
Boom Lifts
The boom lift is a much more complicated pieces of aerial lift machinery compared to a scissor lift. The boom lift usually has a much wider base in order to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which allows the operator to lower and hoist the bucket. As the arm of the boom is jointed, it can move from side to side also. The boom lift resembles a metal scorpion's tail. Usually, it is used in construction applications outdoors. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to operate than scissor lifts, hence, operators need to be certified individually for these kinds of lifts.
